Bird App Terms

Using Bird App

Boundary Object LLC, based in the United States, operates Bird App, an invitation-based beta for recording birds and sharing observations with other members. This closed beta is available to people 18 or older in the United States. Sign in with your own Apple account. A new account needs an invite before profile setup. Keep your account secure, and do not sell invites or use another person's identity.

Beta features may change, be interrupted, or be withdrawn. Keep a separate copy of records that matter to you. Bird identifications and local occurrence estimates can be wrong; review observations before sharing them. Use the app responsibly around wildlife and other people, and respect access restrictions and local rules.

Your content

You keep ownership of the notes, observations, sketches, photos and other content you contribute. Only upload material you created or have permission to use. Do not share someone else's personal information without permission.

By contributing content, you give Bird App permission to store, process, copy and display it as needed to operate the app, synchronize your records, provide backups and share it with the audience allowed by your settings. This permission does not transfer ownership or permit unrelated advertising use of your content. Stored copies and deletion are described in the Privacy Policy.

A public profile shares posts with other signed-in members, including people you have not added as friends. A private profile limits shared posts to friends. Your display name, username and profile photo are discovery information and are not made friends-only by choosing Private. Other people may save copies of content they can see.

Community rules

Be respectful. Do not post harassment, threats, hate speech, sexual exploitation, pornography, graphic abuse, spam, scams or unlawful material. Do not impersonate others, infringe intellectual property, expose private information, or encourage harm to people or wildlife.

Do not bypass invitations or access controls, interfere with the service, or collect other members' information without permission. Use the app's report and block controls when appropriate. A report made offline must synchronize before it reaches the service.

Content that violates these rules may be removed, and access may be restricted or ended. These rules apply to profiles, photos, posts, sketches and comments.

Reference material

Bird reference text, images, calls, models and software may come from third parties. Their licenses and credits remain applicable. Access through Bird App does not give you unrestricted rights to redistribute that material. Consult the source credits before reusing it.

Privacy and changes

The Privacy Policy explains how Bird App handles account information, records, sharing and device permissions. These terms may be updated as the service changes. Nothing in these terms removes rights that applicable law does not allow to be waived.

Beta limitations

Bird App is experimental software provided as is and as available. To the extent allowed by law, Boundary Object LLC disclaims express, implied and statutory warranties, including merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose and noninfringement. We do not promise uninterrupted access, error-free operation, accurate identifications or place labels, or that every saved record will be recoverable. Keep independent copies of important records. The app is not a navigation or emergency service.

To the extent permitted by law, Boundary Object LLC is not responsible for indirect, incidental, special or consequential losses arising from use of the app, including lost data or profits. Nothing in these terms excludes liability or consumer rights that cannot legally be excluded, including responsibility for fraud or other conduct where the law prohibits a limitation.

The app license is governed by Apple's Standard End User License Agreement, including its applicable warranty and liability provisions. These service and community rules supplement that license; they do not replace Apple's agreement or expand the app's warranties.
